グルーニング美術館
グルーニング美術館は、ベルギー北西部にあるブルージュにある美術館ですが、この街の繊細さや美しさを知る為にも必ず立ち寄りたい場所のひとつです。ここグルーニング美術館に展示される絵画はベルヴィエトの流れを汲む繊細が展示されており、細部に渡り詳細な描き込みが見られます。初期フランドル派の画家である1400年代にJan Van Eyck(ヤン・ファン・エイク)工房が描いたもので、べルヴェットの質感や戦具としての鎧姿に着る細かな金属レールなどが緻密に、見事に描かれています。作品の中にはケルン大聖堂の建築現場を描いたものもあり、絵コンテだけの一見未完成のようにも思われますが、詳細な陰影が施され実際にはデッサン完成絵図と言われています。こうしたヤン・ファン・エイクの流れがHans Memling(ハンス・メムリンク)によってフランドル絵画の集大成が行われたと言われている。
　グルーニング美術館とは、病院を改造した美術館で、グルーニング館内にあるDer Märtyrertod Ursulasと呼ばれる聖遺物箱には伝説の聖ウルスラ伝の絵巻が３枚描かれている。伝説によれば聖ウルスラは、ブルージュを発ちローマへ向かった。しかし、ケルンでフン族に襲われ引き連れた乙女たちは、皆殺しとなりあえなく殉職(じゅんしょく、特定の業務、ここでは聖職に従事するスタッフ職員が、職務・業務中の事故が原因で死亡した。)残された聖ウルスラの美しさにひかれたフン族のリーダーはウルスラに結婚を申し出たが、宗教上の問題として、異教徒(ペイゲン)とは結婚できないと述べると、フン族に殺害されてしまった。
